Hato Hone St John looking for more volunteers in Rotorua Hospital ED
11/11/2024
Rotorua Hospital needs more volunteers to join Friends of the Emergency Department (FEDS) and support patients in the Emergency Department.
Hato Hone St John FED volunteers provide comfort, reassurance and help to patients and their families, becoming an important part of the hospital emergency department.
Rotorua Team Lead, Sue Taylor, says it could be making a cup of tea, getting an extra blanket, making a bed with fresh linen and supporting patients and whānau.
“FEDs are always ready to help. It’s a great team here. If people have some time, it’s a great way to give something back to the community and it’s very rewarding. We get a lot of pleasure out of it and patients and staff are very grateful for our support.”
Sue says FEDs is looking for people who can commit at least four hours a fortnight for at least 12 months to do shifts in Rotorua Hospital Emergency Department. (Shifts are: 10am to 2pm, 2pm to 6pm and 6pm to 10pm every day).
People need to be reasonably fit as the shift requires you to be on your feet for four hours.
Volunteers need to be police vetted and go through hospital medical screening.
