About Rotorua Hospital Emergency Department
This is a busy hospital Emergency Department seeing 33,500 patients per annum with the full mix of presentations from obstetric and gynaecology and paediatrics through to mental health and trauma.
It is a 34-bed facility, which includes three resuscitation areas, five monitored spaces, 17 acute cubicle spaces (including four dedicated paediatric rooms) and a six bed clinical decision unit.
There are dedicated procedure rooms for performing ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology, gynaecology, orthopaedic and general procedures.
There is also 24 hour access to radiology services, laboratory and blood bank facilities.

For experienced ED nurses, we have a strong support system in place for staff to study and develop new clinical skills and knowledge.
Rotorua ED is able to support nursing from a new graduate through to senior leadership roles.
We have a clinical nurse specialist team and associate clinical nurse managers led by a clinical nurse manager and supported by a clinical nurse educator.
Rotorua ED has a strong medical workforce which supports a teaching environment. It is recognised as an Accredited Emergency Depatment (ACEM) training site.
There are multiple opportunities for multi-disciplinary education.
