Lakes DHB forms part of the Midland Regional Trauma System (MRTS), which currently comprises of 3 other DHB’s (Waikato DHB, Bay of Plenty DHB and Taranaki DHB. There are in excess of 4,900 estimated trauma related admissions to Midland hospitals each year, with over 300 patients with an Injury Severity Score = 15. Lakes DHB serves a population of around 100,000 with 7% major trauma cases with an average of 5 major trauma per month and ~ 66 minor traumas per month.
