Testing centres in Lakes DHB quieter today

Testing centres at Rotorua and Taupō have been steady today, but there are no long queues as has been the case in the last two days.

Because of the level of demand and waiting times, Lakes DHB is looking to test:
• people with symptoms
• those people who have been asked by Toi Te Ora Public Health to be swabbed as part of contact tracing, or
• people who were at any of the places identified as being visited by the Covid-positive Auckland visitors at the weekend, around the times they were visited

Hours of operation for the three centres, 2 Vaughan Road in Rotorua, 79 Miro Street in Taupō and the Rotorua International Stadium are 9am-4pm, seven days a week.

In Turangi a community testing station was run today, Friday, 10am-12noon, in the carpark opposite Turangi Police Station.

In level 4 we did 1595 tests in Rotorua and Taupo total (from March 26 to April 27). In the last two days we so far have tested 1105 people at our two permanent centres and are still awaiting the confirmed test numbers for Tunohopu Marae at Ohinemutu and the Rotorua International Stadium.

Get tested if you have symptoms
If you have cold or flu symptoms, even though you may have had a test earlier, you should stay home and call Healthline for free on 0800 358 5453, your doctor or your iwi health provider.

A health professional will advise whether you should get tested. Call your doctor before visiting if you have any symptoms.
Tests are free, including tests at your GP. If you are offered a test, take it. Symptoms include:
• a cough
• a high temperature of at least 38°C
• shortness of breath
• sore throat
• sneezing and runny nose
• temporary loss of smell.
Shortness of breath is a sign of possible pneumonia and requires immediate medical attention.
