Five-day strike by anaesthetic technicians underway at Rotorua Hospital

Anaesthetic technicians at Rotorua Hospital who are members of the APEX union began a five day strike this morning.

As a result of the strike action, only certain surgeries can be performed at Rotorua Hospital this week.

That means some patients coming to ED may need to be moved to another DHB or health provider for their surgery.

Acting Chief Executive Nick Saville-Wood says any changes to hospital services have been made to ensure the safety of our patients is not compromised.

He says staff are doing all they can to meet the healthcare needs of patients, and the DHB very much regrets any inconvenience to patients.

Nick Saville-Wood says the DHB has become increasingly worried about the cumulative effect of multiple industrial actions at the DHB.

He says clinicians are concerned about some patients whose surgery has been delayed by repeated strike action.
