Hospitals manager Nick Saville-Wood to lead Lakes DHB  during CE recruitment

Chief Operating Officer for Lakes DHB Nick Saville-Wood will lead Lakes DHB for a fixed period when retiring Chief Executive Ron Dunham steps down at the end of December.

As the Chief Operating Officer or COO, he manages Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals along with a number of community services. Nick led the rebuild of both Rotorua and Taupo Hospitals in his previous role as General Manager Corporate Services, and as the Project Director for the hospitals redevelopment that ended in 2014.

Board Chair Deryck Shaw says Nick Saville-Wood has been seconded to the CE role for up to six-months while the DHB undergoes recruitment for a permanent chief executive.

Deryck Shaw says the Board notes that Nick Saville-Wood is a very experienced senior health executive who has worked at the DHB for more than 20 years.

Deryck Shaw says the DHB Board members are confident that Lakes DHB will be proceeding with its work programme over this period, and are committed to ensuring there is no loss of momentum for the organisation during the recruitment period.

Nick has stepped in to the top job on a number of occasions during the six and a half years that Ron Dunham has been Chief Executive and has taken leave.

The Board has selected Craig O’Connell of Recruitment and Performance (RAP) Consulting Limited to search for a new chief executive. He has previously been involved in the CE recruitment processes at BoP, Nelson Marlborough and Taranaki DHBs.

The Board is keen to see that the person appointed to the top role lives within the Lakes DHB boundaries.
