After Hours FREE immunisation clinic, Life Pharmacy, Rotorua Central Mall

Parents at home with their young children for the school holidays can have their children immunised at the after hours clinic
The new clinic in the Life Pharmacy at the Rotorua Central Mall started up in early August, to help Rotorua families who struggle to find time to have their children immunised during business hours.
An experienced trained nurse vaccinator is at Life Pharmacy in the Rotorua Central Mall each Thursday between 5 -6.30pm, and Saturday 10am-2pm.
Teens and young adults have been among the early users of the service, for HPV vaccines. Boys from age 12 to 26 can have their catch up HPV at the after hours clinic.
Pip King, portfolio manager for maternal, child and youth health for Lakes DHB says one young mother whose baby was overdue had really struggled to find time to take her child for her immunisations, and because she was a working mum, she was not available or readily contactable during the day.
The parents of children who were born overseas and now need catch up immunisations as per the national schedule, are also finding the after hours clinic helpful.
The nurse is able to administer any vaccinations on the national immunisation schedule. This includes all the childhood, school vaccinations and the HPV vaccinations which are now available for boys and young men up to age 26 years. All immunisations provided at the after hours clinic are entered on to the national immunisation register.
For those parents or caregivers who are not certain whether their child is up to date with their immunisations, the nurse has access to the national immunisation register to check.
Pip King says the service in the Life Pharmacy is an extension of the Outreach Immunisation Service that has been visiting some primary care venues for some years.
She says it’s clear many parents find it quite tough to take time off work, so a Thursday early evening clinic and four hours on Saturday is designed to help them.
“Like all immunisation services, this is free and we hope that the parking and the chance to work in immunisations with a trip to the mall might help some of our families.”
