WOMAN, CHILD & FAMILY SERVICE - WHO ARE WE?
The Woman, Child & Family, Service at Lakes District Health Board provides a range of specialist secondary medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health, administration and support functions, across the Lakes catchment area.
Services are provided, dependent on contract, to patients/clients and their families/whanau (inpatient, outpatient and community), the clinical and corporate services of Lakes DHB, the primary sector, and community agencies across the Lakes catchment area.

Children's Unit and Early Childhood Centre

Ground Floor, Bridgman Building, North Wing – Ext 8730
The Children's Unit provides inpatient services (20-bed unit) for children aged 0-14.
The Playroom located at the back of the Children's Unit is a licensed Early Childhood Centre where children staying on the ward and their siblings can learn and play.

Rotorua - Ground Floor, Bridgman Building. Birthing Unit – Ext 7900 / Perinatal Unit – Ext 8995
The Rotorua Hospital Birthing Unit provides a 'Level 2' secondary inpatient service for women during labour and delivery. There are eight labour, birthing, recovery and post-natal rooms, and two acute assessment rooms. The Perinatal Inpatient Unit comprises 10 single rooms plus four Mothercraft rooms.
Taupo - Maternity Unit – Ext 5830
The Taupo Maternity Unit includes a primary birthing facility for those with low-risk pregnancies. Women with complications will be transfered to Rotorua.Lakes DHB enjoys 'Baby Friendly Hospital Status' and employs part-time Lactation Consultants at both Rotorua and Taupo.
Outpatient Services include Antenatal Clinics, where women are referred by their Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) for specialist obstetrical assessment.

Ground Floor, Bridgman Building – Ext 7969
The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is a 10-cot inpatient unit which cares for unwell or premature babies. The unit is divided into areas of high-need, medium-need and isolation, and offers facilities for mothers to stay in hospital whilst their babies require inpatient care.

Te Au O Hinetai, Corner of Whakaue & Hinemaru Streets – Ext 5000
The Child Development Team provides an assessment and therapy service for children with developmental issues. The team comprises specialised therapists who are supported by other health professionals to meet the developmental needs of children at risk.

Lakes District Health Board has a team of Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who are supported by O&G Registrars and Senior House Officers.

The Service Social Workers provide professional and confidential support services to women and children across the inpatient, outpatient and community settings.
The Professional Advisor for Physical Health Social Work also works within the Woman Child & Family Service.

The Co-ordinator provides advocacy, facilitation, and co-ordination for incidences of suspected, evidenced or disclosed child abuse across Lakes DHB. For more information on the advisory panel please click here.

The paediatric department at Lakes DHB provides secondary paediatric services for children 0-14 years.
The Paediatricians are supported by a team of Senior House Officers.

The Outreach Nurse Specialists provide care and support for unwell children and families/whanau in the community, enabling children to stay at home instead of in hospital.
