 Mental Health and Addiction Sector Update hui

A mental health and addiction sector meeting was held on the Thursday 8 April 2021 with 40 MH&A staff in attendance.

This meeting provided an opportunity for Community and Secondary Care Specialist services to come together and network and receive an update on what has progressed within the sector including the numerous projects under Te Ara Tauwhirotanga.

Lakes DHB Postvention Consultant Suzy Taylor

Suzy Taylor says it’s an honour to take on the new role of Lakes DHB Postvention Consultant as she feels there is so much more we can do as a community towards
stopping suicide.

“The one thing that we can all do to help prevent someone from taking their own life; it costs nothing, and yes, it’s absolutely free. It’s called kindness. This is the first initiative to stopping suicide,” she says.

New facility for people with complex needs in Rotorua

A new facility for mental health patients in the community has been formally opened in Rotorua.

Ember Korowai Takatini held a pohiri on February 11 2021 for its new seven-bed facility for patients whose complex needs are beyond the normal capability of currently contracted residential mental health providers.

It is a partnership with Lakes District Health Board under the Te Ara Tauwhirotanga model of care.

The facility has been named Toro Mai a Ringa, meaning outstretched hand. Click here to read more.
